Governor Beebe!!!!

 

This was an AWESOME day for our first graders! We were so lucky that Governor Beebe made time to come out and speak to our kiddos about the role of the Governor. He was so friendly and funny. The kids loved getting to ask him questions and listen to his stories. He even told us that we are his boss!! They really enjoyed that. We were so proud of how they behaved and preformed their song. They practiced so hard on it all week and did great. He was very impressed with our first graders. He was greeted by our older kiddos outside on the court yard and then more kiddos lined the hallways to greet him on his way to the gym.  

 

A huge thank you to Amber Wood for organizing this wonderful event for our first graders!!!

Cooking with Kiddos!

Today we read, Amelia Bedelia's First Apple Pie! It is such a cute story!! It has the recipe on the back page for apple pie!! We talked about how neat it would be to research a recipe at home and bake a pie with our families, just like Amelia Bedelia!

SPELLO

Do you need a NEW way to practice those spelling words? Here is a neat idea. SPELLO! The kiddos are bringing their cards home today, but you could use a blank paper and draw some boxes for the words! They write one word in each box and the middle box is a free spot. Call out the words just like in BINGO, but instead of yelling BINGO, you say SPELLO!! You could use cereal, coins, etc for the covers.

We have been using this app to practice our spelling words. It is called PaintSparkles. It is a free download in the APP store!! The kids LOVE it. They can use their fingers to write the words. It play music and lots of cool colors!!

We're Going On A Leaf Hunt

Fall is in the air!! We decided to go outside and enjoy it!! We walked the Nature Trail looking for leaves. We found all kinds!!

When we returned to the classroom we discussed ways to sort our leaves. Color, shape, and size! Next, we made leaf rubbings with fall colors. The kiddos loved it.

Celebrate Freedom Guest Speaker

 

 

We were so lucky to have Sargent Knapp come to Wooster today. He is a Marine and came to visit with our kiddos about his job. He shared with them how important it is to be respectful of our Country and how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful place.

 

Everyone was impressed!!

 

 

 

 

He shared with us some of the traditions from the Marines. The symbol is very important. It is on his hat and all of the buttons on his uniform. The symbol has an eagle, anchor, and globe.

 

 

 

He talked with us about the importance of being respectful while saying the Pledge of Allegiance and practiced it with us!!

 

 

 

AND...... He brought his SWORD!!!

 He was nice enough to show us some of the drills!

It was very neat!!

 

 

 

 

 

We had lots of questions for him. :)

 

 

He even posed for pictures!!!

To kick off our Celebrate Freedom week, we discuss our  Constitution and decided to write our very own Class Constitution. We discussed how to be a good citizen at home and at school. The kiddos told me what they wanted to be included in our Constitution and I typed it for us. We all took turns signing it.

This is a great place to practice short A words! The kiddos will LOVE it!!

Human Body

We will be talking about the human body for the next two weeks! The kids have been having a blast learning about our Amazing Bodies!! Today we traced some of the kiddos to make an outline of the body. We are going to use these to label our body parts as we learn about them:) We will be learning about the brain, heart, lungs, bones, and muscles.

We had a special visitor.

This was a great way to kick off our Science Unit!!
